Mental Health Awareness Month
Friday, May 1st, 2026, On the Village Green.
Event Starts at 5:00 PM.
The City of Summit is announcing its participation in the second annual “Paint the Town Green” campaign, led by the NJ Cross Town Mental Health Coalition in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. The coalition consists of 14 neighboring towns across Union, Morris, and Essex counties, including Summit, Berkeley Heights, Chatham, Fanwood, Florham Park, Long Hill, Livingston, Madison, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, Mountainside, New Providence, Scotch Plains, and Westfield.
Throughout the month of May, the coalition will coordinate a series of initiatives designed to foster connection and conversation in support of its mission to raise awareness, expand access to resources, and reinforce that mental health matters.
The campaign will kick off on May 1 at an event on the Summit Village Green (356 Broad Street) from 5 PM to 7 PM, bringing together community leaders, local organizations, businesses, and residents for an evening centered on awareness, connection, and support. The event will feature wellness-focused programming, speakers, and opportunities to engage with local mental health resources. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
“As a former physician, I’ve seen firsthand how profoundly mental health shapes a person’s overall well-being,” says Summit Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD. “We are proud to host this event as an opportunity to bring people together, share resources, and remind everyone that they are not alone.” Fagan continues: “We are thrilled to once again participate in this month-long campaign as part of the NJ Cross Town Mental Health Coalition. Our hope is that this collaborative effort reminds individuals who are struggling that they are not alone and inspires everyone to prioritize their well-being and take that first step toward support if they need it.”
The city has created a Mental Health Awareness Month landing page at cityofsummit.org/MHAM, which includes links to the NJ Cross Town Mental Health Coalition’s website and calendar of upcoming wellness-focused events, and additional mental health resources.
