COVID 19 Guidelines

Hours of Operation:

 Lap Swim Only: Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM

Senior Swim: Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM

Summer Recreation Camp: Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM until 11:45 AM**

Leisure Pool Early Swim: Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM until Noon

General Opening:

Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM

Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM 

**Please note that the Summer Recreation Camp will not be at the Summit Family Aquatic Center during normal operational hours to help maintain the facility capacity for our General Membership

There will be no float nights for the 2020 season as social distancing becomes impossible to maintain.

The playground at the Summit Family Aquatic Center remains closed until guidance is offered by the State of New Jersey.


Limited Bather Load

The normal bather load of the Summit Family Aquatic Center is 1200. This year, the bather load will be reduced to 600 to encourage social distancing based on the 50% reduced capacity order by the State of New Jersey.

Entry to the Facility

This year, more than ever, membership cards are vital to promoting social distancing between yourself and staff/other members of the facility. Please remember your membership card at each and every visit. If you do not have your membership card, please call the Department of Community Programs at 908-277-2932.

All members must be scanned into the facility. This is vital to allow for accurate contact tracing should there be a case of COVID-19 at the Summit Family Aquatic Center.

A barrier has been installed to separate our front desk attendant from our members. If there is a line when checking in, please follow the 6 foot markings to ensure social distancing.

The main entrance in the pool house will only be available for entrance. When inside the facility, the gate at the left of the pool house will be designated for exit. This will be monitored by a separate attendant.

No registrations will be taken at the facility. Please either register online at summitcommunityprograms.com or call 908-277-2932.

Guests

No guests will be permitted into the Summit Family Aquatic Center until July 15, when a revised guest policy may be issued. If there is an extenuating circumstance which necessitates a guest, please contact the Department of Community Programs.

Leisure Pool

The capacity at the leisure pool is 91. Due to this restricted number, we will take reservations in two hour increments at the leisure pool. Reservations will be made from 10:00-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00, 4:00-6:00 and 6:00-8:00. We will have a separate social distancing ambassador and gate guard at the leisure pool gate. Only the lower gate will be open for entry and exit.

Toys will be permitted at leisure pool, however you must provide your own toys. We will prohibit the sharing of such equipment except among immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners

Senior Swim

Senior Swim: Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM

Monday through Friday, the main pool shallow end will be open for the exclusive use by senior citizens. During this time, seniors will be permitted to use kick board and noodles that are brought to the facility by the member. These items will not be allowed during normal operational hours. We will prohibit the sharing of such equipment except among immediate family
members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners

Adult Swims will remain in place every hour on the hour for fifteen minutes as deemed necessary by the manager of the Summit Family Aquatic Center.

 

Face Masks and Gloves

Staff and patrons are encouraged to wear a cloth face covering while not in the water when social distancing of 6 feet cannot be maintained, unless doing so would inhibit the individual’s health.

Lifeguards should NOT wear a face covering while on duty actively lifeguarding. It is encouraged that lifeguards wear a cloth face covering when they are not on duty actively lifeguarding and cannot maintain social distancing of 6 feet.

Cloth coverings should NOT be put on children under the age of two because of the danger of suffocation.

Face coverings should NOT be worn in the water.

Social Distancing is Encouraged

The Summit Family Aquatic Center will implement measures to ensure social distancing is maintained by:

Encouraging 6 feet social distancing while in the water, unless the individual needs assistance in order to swim, except immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners

Encouraging 6 feet social distancing on the deck, except immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners

A social distancing ambassador will be on the deck at all times to promote social distancing practices.


Restrooms

Restrooms will remain open for the use by our membership. We encourage practicing social distancing while in the restrooms.

Restrooms will be disinfected by Summit Family Aquatic Center staff on a regular basis.

Foot coverings are required when in the restroom, shower area and locker rooms.

Hands should be washed frequently with soap and water. Hand sanitizer that is at least 60% should be used if soap and water are not available. Do not touch your face (especially eyes, nose or mouth) with unwashed hands. The Summit Family Aquatic Center will have hand sanitizing stations available as well as the restrooms for washing hands with soap and water.

Restrooms will be marked with directional signs designating one door as the entrance and the other as the exit.

 

Amenities

Chairs and lounge chairs will not be provided by the Summit Family Aquatic Center this season. Tables and umbrellas will still be available. The sharing of furniture and equipment provided to patrons for use by the pool facility, including tables, is prohibited, except among immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners. These will be cleaned and disinfected after each use.

The Summit Family Aquatic Center will continue to provide lifejackets for the public. However, when returning them they must be placed in the “return bin” and the lifejackets will be disinfected before being returned to the rack.

The Summit Family Aquatic center will not provide noodles, kick boards, or balls.

The Ping Pong Table will be made available, but you must bring your own paddle and ball.

The Basketball and Volleyball courts will remain open, however, you must bring your own ball.

There will be five disinfection stations throughout the facility. One in the main bath house, one at the snack bar, one at the entry to the leisure pool, one at the entry to the main pool, and one by the back pump house.

The Ping Pong Table will be made available, but you must bring your own paddle and ball.

The Basketball and Volleyball courts will remain open, however, you must bring your own ball.


Health Checks

Staff: Temperature readings of staff entering the facility will be required daily. Persons that have a fever of 100.4° or above or other signs of COVID-19 illness should not be admitted to the facilities. The Summit Family Aquatic center will encourage staff to be on the alert for signs of illness and to stay home when they are sick.

Members: Screening for fever or signs of COVID-19 illness at designated entry points prior to being permitted to enter the facility will be completed by way of members reading signage. Spot checks may be completed by the front desk attendant by asking about general wellness and symptoms related to COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea. Anyone exhibiting these symptoms will not be admitted to the Summit Family Aquatic Center.

 

Inclement Weather Policy

Members will be asked to clear the water and decks and wait in their car. Once the storm has passed and we receive the all clear signal we will make an announcement and allow patrons back into the facility.

Lost and Found Policy

Any items that are left behind at the facility by members at the end of the day, will be disposed of. No lost and found items will be kept.

Concession Stand

SA Food will remain our concessionaire for the 2020 season. SA Foods will be required to follow all guidelines provided by the State of New Jersey. Tables in the snack bar will be placed six feet from each other to ensure social distancing guidelines are being followed.

Staff Response to COVID 19

Manager: The manager will also serve as the immediate COVID contact person.

Custodian: This individual will be responsible for the constant disinfection of the pool house, including restrooms, main entrance, and snack bar area. This person shall also be responsible for garbage disposal.

Lifeguard: Lifeguards that had a certification due to expire in the spring/summer of 2020 have all applied for the American Red Cross extension. All lifeguards participate in pre- season training to be re-trained in CPR, First Aid, AED, blood borne pathogens, and oxygen.

Social Distancing Ambassador (Main Pool): This individual will be responsible for monitoring and encouraging social distancing of bathers on the main pool deck, leisure pool deck and grounds. Additionally, this individual will constantly disinfect all high touch surfaces at the main deck and leisure pool of the facility.

Social Distancing Ambassador (Leisure Pool): This individual will be responsible for checking in all pre-registrants at the leisure pool. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for assisting in the monitoring and encouraging of social distancing of bathers at the leisure pool.


Police Notification Police

In the event of non-compliance to social distancing guidelines, management and the Social Distancing Ambassador will be trained to give a warning. If patron is still non-compliant the police will be called. There will be no tolerance for non-compliance.

COVID 19 Emergency Care Room

Anyone showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19 will be admitted to the Emergency Care Room located outside of the facility. The emergency care room located outside of the main entrance will have a protective covering (tent).

Personal Protective Equipment

Patrons must provide their own PPE.

Lifeguards, Managers, Custodians, Social Distancing Ambassadors and Gate Attendants will have a choice to wear their own masks when necessary, or use one provided by the Summit Family Aquatic Center that will be available from the Manager.

All disinfection and cleaning will be done with an EPA approved disinfectant against COVID-19 following manufacturers instructions.

Signage

The following signage shall be placed at the Summit Family Aquatic Center:

  • Face coverings are strongly encouraged
  • Face coverings should NOT be worn in the water (increases the risk of drowning)
  • Hands should be washed frequently with soap and water
  • Hand sanitizer that is at least 60% should be used if soap and water are not available
  • Do not touch your face (especially eyes, nose or mouth) with unwashed hands
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Practice social distancing and avoid large gatherings
