Weekly Specialty Camps

Each summer the Department of Community Programs strives to put together a robust schedule of specialty camps. These camps all run by the week and typically run Monday through Friday, reserving Friday as a raindate in the event the camp is held outside. Offerings include STEAM, Art, Fashion, Pony, Sports, Golf, Drones and more! These specialty camps are all run through third party contractors. Week of July 6 through July 9 (make up July 10)

Golf Camp
Times: 9:00-12:00
Long Field @ Summit Community Center, 100 Morris Ave

Using the SNAG® (Starting New At Golf) system, athletes learn the fundamentals of swinging, putting, and body positioning for an effective transition onto the course.

Pastel Drawing Workshop - Colorful Critters of the Sky and Sea

Animal lovers rejoice; an all new - all pastel workshop is here! Students will learn pastel drawing and texturing techniques to illustrate whimsical bees, a fanciful army of frogs, a striking owl and more artistic critters filled with detail. Challenge your creative kids by introducing them to the world of pastels, a guaranteed favorite summer tradition for every Young Rembrandts artist. Enroll now!

NOLA Fashion Week
Times: 8:30-12:30

Behind Cornog Field House (outdoors), Inside Cornog Field House in case of inclement weather 

Design and create a simple Romper or Jumpsuit with Fashion First Workshops for your NOLA camp event. The designers will also explore trending designs, fabrics, and accessories that are inspired by the French dressing up for Mardi Gras or the Jazz festival. The accessory of the week is either to decorate and design a parasol or a mask. Then they’ll even make a braided belt to complement their design.  The class will end with an individual our fashion show, to share with family & friends!!! Do you have a passion for fashion? Well you have come to the right place, we will teach you all you need to know to become a fashion designer. These designers will also take part in individual  fashion challenges (i.e. Newspaper challenges, trash bag challenges & many more). No sewing experience necessary, co-ed classes. The camp fee includes all fabric, trims, notions and use of the sewing machines.

Magic Masters

Abracadabra! You will be transformed when you learn to perform all new tricks this fall. The Disappearing Deck, 3 Magic Wands and Coin Increasing Bag are just a few of the astounding tricks you will learn during this exciting program. You will experience amazing fun when you learn the secrets of these jaw-dropping illusions. Once you’ve transformed into a Magical Master, you’ll get to share your new skills with friends and family in a real magic show at your school…and keep all the tricks! It’s Magical! Learn it! School House Chess

Schoolhouse Chess brings chess pieces to life using creative and animated personalities that enable students to learn the game in a fun and exciting way. Students become fascinated with imaginative chess characters that accelerate the learning process. This course covers the rules and strategies of chess.

Pony Share: PEP Program
9-10:30 or 2:30-4:00

Participants will learn safety on and around the ponies, grooming techniques, basic riding skills, and other primary horsemanship skills. While this is not a Horseback Riding lesson per se, the program includes an exciting riding component whereas each child will get to ride about 20 minutes and learn how to properly mount, dismount, hold the reins and control the horse/pony at the walk and a few steps of trot. Sessions aim to help develop confidence and motor-coordination skills while providing a supportive, fun, non-threatening environment for the participants as well as social interaction between them. This is a participatory program for parents who so desire, so one may be asked to occasionally lend a hand. Parents/guardians must stay on location during the Program. The perfect preparation for private or semi-private lessons for eager, young, aspiring Equestrians, or for subsequent, more advanced Pony programs!

Pony Share: PGRP Program

This unique 4-day Program provides an exciting and inexpensive hands-on introduction to the wonderful world of equines in a fun-filled and supportive atmosphere. PonyShare uses camp-trained ponies and cobs (smaller and easier to handle than their larger equine counterparts). Small groups of 4-5 children are formed according to age and prior experience, if any. After reviewing safety rules, material previously covered and learning a new subject matter, participants are assigned their size-related pony or cob and each small group works under the tutelage of a qualified and motivated Counselor. Some of the horsemanship skills covered may include: Safety on and around horses; Basic Anatomy; Equine Senses & body Language; grooming, The Tack and Harness; English and Western styles; Barn Management; and Careers in the Industry. Participants also get to ride or drive their charges for about 20 minutes during each Session. This Program enhances team work, self-esteem, and camaraderie while helping develop a genuine appreciation and respect for the animals. Course Materials are provided. A winner by many…furlongs this Program is very popular and tends to book early!

Foundation Tennis

At Tatlock Field Tennis Courts

Foundation Tennis is designed to introduce players to the fundamentals of tennis, including stroke technique, serving, court awareness and rallying.

Activities are delivered in a low pressure, yet energetic environment, ensuring optimal learning, all the while maintaining the enjoyment factor of being on the tennis court. These tennis classes are open to the age of 5 years old through to adult.

Video Game Design Camp (I)

In this beginner Scratch camp, campers will build their foundation of Scratch fundamentals to create animations and games using data structures, algorithms and game design. Students will learn to create unique game design projects with functions that involve math and logic. Challenging problems are given in each class to enhance students understanding and encourage creativity.

Airplane Buddies

Can you build them? Yes, you can! UFO, Sky Rocket, and Arrow Quest are just a few of the many airplane models you’ll get to build in this STEM-focused program. Learn what makes your plane lift off and continue to fly, and then build some more. But don’t let the physics fool you! You’ll learn a great deal, while having an amazing time flying all the models.

Monsters, Creatures, and Creeps Drawing Workshop

Laugh-out-loud funny! Mind-bendingly-creepy! Eerie-but-exciting! If your child is a fan of creepy, crawly monsters, this Summer Art workshop is the perfect fit. Over the course of five days, your child will learn to draw and cartoon a variety of characters and even complete a large composition using pastels. They will learn to draw monsters of all shapes, sizes and colors. There are big monsters...and little monsters! Furry monsters …and scaly monsters! If we can imagine a monster, we’ll draw it! Paris Fashion Week

Our fashion show will be individual & virtual for the parents to view!!

Code A Bot with Sphero
